As part of his visit to Geneva, where he will meet with the Canadian Representative to the United Nations and Ambassadors of the Lima Group, Ambassador Viera-Blanco held a diplomatic meeting with representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
“We were able to talk about the situation of our returnees in Venezuela, especially the cases of stigmatization, isolation, persecution and mistreatment of compatriots trying to return to the country. Nationals who have been dubbed “bio-terrorists” by the Caracas regime. Likewise, it was a good opportunity to talk about the risk of COVID-19 infection of the imprisoned, the biased justice and the refusal to investigate and punish crimes against humanity,” informed the diplomat.
Diplomatic authorities in Geneva have requested more information about the details of the elections called by Maduro next December, and why these elections could be considered fraudulent. The diplomat will also meet with Canada’s representative to the United Nations to review issues of universal justice and the referrals initiated by five South American countries plus Canada.
Recently, Michelle Bachelet made her oral statement on incidences of human rights violations denouncing, among other things, her concern about “extrajudicial executions, new cases of persecution of journalists and doctors, and other incidents related to the repression of protests, raids and imprisonment without a warrant.”
The Ambassador is also scheduled to go to Paris from where he will push for proceedings at the International Criminal Court.
