Following closely the situation that Venezuelans have been going through in Belgium, Europe and the world, has been one of the main tasks of the Venezuelan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Mary Ponte, during the development of this complicated year 2020.
Furthermore, Ambassador Ponte has held numerous diplomatic meetings, including those with the ambassadors of: Colombia, Felipe García; Bolivia, Claudia Muñoz; Guatemala, José Luis Briz; Honduras, Roberto Ochoa; Portugal, José Costa; Panama, Yavel Francis; all of them representing their respective countries in the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. Ambassador Ponte also held a recent meeting with James Story, US Charge d’Affaires in Venezuela and Rafael Foley, in charge of the political section.
The official of the interim government explained that: “in all the meetings there have been common themes such as the effect on the Latin American region derived from the destruction of Venezuela by the regime and the economic, political and migratory impact that this has generated”.
Likewise, Ambassador Ponte made it clear that the correctives for this serious situation does not depend only on the Venezuelan people and the authorities of the interim government: “The need for support is extremely important, not only from the region, but from the world, in order to generate pressure and open the way to an electoral solution that will lead Venezuela towards freedom and democracy”.
In this context, the diplomat explains the strategy maintained by interim President Juan Guaidó to achieve the political change that Venezuela needs: “We continue our struggle, our demand, to achieve presidential and also parliamentary elections with electoral conditions and guarantees to give way to a peaceful democratization of Venezuela”.
Ponte also explained the most recent threat to the country, with the attempt to carry out an electoral fraud next December 6th: “they intend to put an end to the National Assembly, the only democratic power left standing, through the realization of an electoral process that lacks legitimacy and that does not comply with the minimum conditions of transparency and credibility”.
Also, the ambassador went on to detail, to her peers in Belgium, the Popular Consultation that will be held from December 6th to 12th, at the national and international level, to dismantle the electoral farce of the regime and give a voice to Venezuelans.
