Ambassador to the United States Carlos Vecchio thanked the members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Special Representative for Venezuela Eliott Abrams and Acting Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Joshua Hodges for their commitment and strong support in seeking a solution to the Venezuelan crisis.
Vecchio reported that during the session of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee it was concluded that Maduro’s dictatorship is a serious threat to the region, in addition to the fact that Nicolás Maduro leads a transnational criminal corporation, linked to narco-terrorist groups, which plunder natural and economic resources in Venezuela.
“Maduro seeks to remain in power through a new electoral fraud, which has been rejected by the US authorities and its international allies. The results of the fraud will not be recognized,” he said.
U.S. Reiterates Commitment to Venezuela
The diplomat said that the administration of President Donald Trum will continue to support Juan Guaidó as President (E) of Venezuela.
“The United States administration will continue to support President Juan Guaidó, beyond any fraudulent attempt to impose a mock election in the struggle that the Interim President is leading in the name of the Venezuelan people,” he added.
The ambassador denounced that Maduro intends to extend his stay in power through a new electoral fraud, which has been rejected by U.S. authorities and his international allies. The results of the fraud will not be recognized.
Vecchio reiterated that Venezuela needs stronger and more effective pressure measures and actions against the regime to achieve the restoration of freedom and democracy in Venezuela. “The fight for freedom in Venezuela is a bipartisan cause for U.S. authorities and institutions,” he said.
“Maduro’s only option is to leave power. Civilians and military officials close to the regime are in regular contact with the U.S. government and the Southern Command in an effort to negotiate Maduro’s departure and initiate a transitional government proposed by President Juan Guaidó and the State Department,” he said.
Vecchio said that the Legitimate Government continues to work until a true and quick solution to the Venezuelan crisis is achieved, in order to build a country that defends the libertarian and democratic ideals, as well as the respect for the rights of all citizens in Venezuela.
“Our people deserve free and fair elections, which can only be guaranteed by a National Emergency Government as proposed by President Juan Guaidó. We continue to work for a free Venezuela,” he said.
