The ambassador to Colombia, Tomás Guanipa, on Monday recognized the work of the Colombian government in addressing the situation of Venezuelans stranded in Bogotá in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We want to recognize the willingness and breadth of the Foreign Ministry and Migration Colombia to achieve through a humanitarian measure the entry of our nationals, many of them with permanent residence within Colombia,” said Guanipa through his official Twitter account.
In this sense, the Venezuelan diplomat assured that from the moment they arrived in Colombia from the embassy of the government of the president in charge of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, they were in permanent contact with our fellow countrymen to offer them all the support to achieve their entry into the country.”
Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, Ambassador Guanipa said that “in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, we continue working from the Venezuelan Embassy to Colombia to provide all support to our Venezuelan brothers.”
Likewise, he said that with the support of President Ivan Duque’s government, as well as of the authorities of the Foreign Affairs and Migration Ministries, Colombia managed to get admitted the Venezuelans who were at the El Dorado Airport.
Likewise, he added that “from the Venezuelan embassy in Colombia, we are working so that the humanitarian return flight can be made, which would allow the Venezuelans stranded in Colombia to return to the country.
Finally, Guanipa said that to organize Venezuelans stranded on Colombian soil, a platform was created to be able to register them.
“We are working to organize Venezuelans stranded in Colombia, we created a digital platform where they can be counted, so far there are 175 Venezuelans in this situation,” he ended.
