Under the slogan “Embassy VE Contigo”, the Venezuelan Embassy in the United States, with the support of Feeding South Florida and the Venezuelan Diaspora, carried out a new operation of free food delivery, providing a helping hand to more than 500 families of the Venezuelan Diaspora and Hispanics affected by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Romy Moreno, Cultural Attaché and Leonardo Boccalon, from the Economic and Commercial Attaché Office; led the operation carried out at Christ Fellowship Church located in West Kendall whose regents were thankful for their invaluable support as well as the organized diaspora.
Moreno stressed that “these operations have zero economic cost for the Embassy, for the Republic and for Venezuelans since the supplies that are delivered are provided free of charge by food banks, in this case Feeding South Florida.”
He added that, “despite our limited resources, the Embassy is willing to make the necessary synergy of efforts among all those who can provide a solution to the clamor of the Venezuelan community affected by the pandemic.
Boccalon explained that “unfortunately these donations cannot be sent to Venezuela. They are programs specially designed to attend population in need within the United States and are directly assigned to a specific activity in the area to be attended”.
Boccalon recalled that “international humanitarian aid for Venezuela, which in good measure has been managed by the diplomatic mission led by Ambassador Carlos Vecchio, is channeled directly by agencies such as USAID from the United States and other countries, to NGOs and foundations that act directly in Venezuela. Another part of the humanitarian assistance is sent directly by donors to countries in the region that have received Venezuelan migration.
Moreno reiterated that from the Embassy they have diagnosed much need among the Venezuelan community. “The Venezuelans who come to us tell us that they have lost their jobs, many do not have the means to pay their rent, buy food, they have been living on aid for months and in churches. We are extending a helping hand and these operations are part of the line of action of the Interim Government of President Juan Guaidó and Ambassador Vecchio, to help all Venezuelans, both those who are inside Venezuela and those who have migrated due to the complex humanitarian crisis generated by Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship and confirmed by the UN Human Rights Council”.
