Gustavo Tarre Briceño, ambassador of the legitimate government of Venezuela to the Organization of American States (OAS), announced on Wednesday, September 11, that he will propose the activation of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR).
“The treaty foresees a series of steps, the first of which is the convocation of the Consultative Body and that is what we are proposing to be done on Wednesday next week at the full OAS meeting”, he said.
Likewise, the diplomat explained that to convene the Consultative Body, 10 votes are required.
“That event requires the absolute majority of the votes of the countries that are part of the treaty”, he added that “the form we have adopted is not that the request is made by Venezuela alone, but that it is accompanied by the absolute majority of the treaty countries”, he said.
The diplomat pointed out that the Government of Guaido is preparing a dossier that shows that the only “danger to the peace of America” is the usurpation in Venezuela, due to the presence of terrorist groups, the emigration that is a threat to social and economic stability of neighboring countries in addition to a drama in Venezuela, and also the hemisphere is endangered by drug trafficking. “All these elements allow us to summon the TIAR”, he said.
