The special representative for Venezuela of the United States, Elliott Abrams, said he is concerned about “the presence of the ELN and the FARC in Venezuela” and the “intentions of Nicolas Maduro’s regime with the military exercises that Maduro has ordered in the border area” .
In that sense, the Venezuelan ambassador to the United States, Carlos Vecchio, said through his official Twitter account that “Maduro’s regime protects narcoterrorist groups such as the ELN and the dissident FARC.”
He also reiterated that “this situation is a serious threat to the stability and security of the entire region and the international community must act collectively and firmly to stop them.”
ELN AND THE FARC ACT WITH TOTAL IMPUNITY IN VENEZUELAN TERRITORY
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, during his presentation before the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), on Wednesday, said that the Chavez and Maduro regimes have supported for more than two decades the narco-guerrilla that has bloodied Colombia .
The Colombian diplomat said that, at present, these groups act with almost total impunity in these Venezuelan territories, demonstrating that the alliance they have with Nicolás Maduro’s regime is solid, since both parties achieve a mutual benefit. For the regime, these groups allow them continuity in power. And what do these armed groups receive in return? Protection, logistic support and training”, said Holmes Trujillo.
