The White House Security adviser, John Bolton, referred on Wednesday to the crisis in Venezuela after confirming that the United States has held “high-level” talks with members of the dictatorship.
He also said that meetings with Venezuelan officials have been held “behind Maduro’s back” and that they discussed the issue of the dictator’s departure.
“As the President (Trump) has repeatedly stated, to end the theft of the resources and continued repression of the Venezuelan people, Maduro must leave. The only elements discussed by those who are coming behind Maduro are his departure and free and fair elections.”
The president of the USA, Donald Trump, confirmed on Tuesday that his government maintains contacts with Chavismo, when asked about information about a dialogue between the White House and the considered “number two” of the ruling party in Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello.
“I don’t want to say who, but we are talking to them at a very high level”, added the president, who spoke with the press during a bilateral meeting with the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, in the Oval office.
The United States has led an international diplomatic offensive to pressure the exit of Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship and thus end the suffering of the Venezuelan people.
