The Christian Democrat Organization of America (ODCA) expressed its congratulations to President Juan Guaidó and the Venezuelan democratic forces for his overwhelming re-election as President of the Venezuelan Legislative Assembly.
“His ratification in office, with a quorum of over one hundred parliamentarians, restores the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people and the legitimacy of the legislative body, which had been temporarily disrupted last Sunday with the election of a usurper directive and in the framework of an irregular process,” reads the published statement.
ODCA also stressed that the illegitimate regime of Nicolás Maduro “failed in its attempt to take over the Legislative Power through a series of anti-democratic practices such as the military blockade of the Congress building, the harassment and persecution of the opposition MPs.
The ODCA also congratulated the democratic consequence of the Venezuelan political parties that, despite the violent practices of Maduro’s regime, “reaffirmed their commitment to democracy and unity, fundamental paths to advance towards a democratic solution in Venezuela.”
“The ODCA reiterates its support for President Juan Guaidó and Venezuelan democracy, as well as the efforts of international bodies, mainly the OAS, which have insisted on the need to restore democracy, recover freedom and reestablish respect for human rights in Venezuela,” the statement concluded.
