The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, received President (E) Juan Guaidó at the Elysée Palace, his official residence.
The French president assured that France supports the holding of free presidential elections and the work that the Venezuelan government has done to recover the country’s democracy.
“France supports the rapid organization of a free and transparent presidential election. We respect the sovereignty and freedom of the Venezuelan people and we are at their side in the face of the humanitarian crisis they are suffering,” Macron said through his social networks.
The French head of state described the meeting with President Guaidó as “constructive” and strengthened his commitment to Venezuela’s freedom.
Macron’s government has distinguished itself as one of the most critical within the European Union of Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship, and recognizes Guaidó as Venezuela’s interim leader until new presidential elections are held.
