The president of the Permanent Commission for Social Development of the National Assembly (NA), Marco Bozo, visited the University of Carabobo on Thursday to check on the state of the facilities. During his inspection he held meetings with the Administrative Vice-Rector José Ferreira, and the deans of Health Sciences, José Corado and Benito Hamidian.
“What we observed was a historical institution that was diminished, with a 30% reduction in teaching, administrative and labor personnel. A student population that reached 70,000 today has only 30,000,” said the NA parliamentarian through his Twitter account.
Bozo explained that out of a fleet of 60 university buses, only four operate due to lack of spare parts. “Twenty units could be put into operation with just the purchase of tires, oil and batteries,” he added.
He also said that during 2019 there was only a budget to pay the salaries of university workers. All employees of the University of Carabobo lost such important benefits as health insurance.
“The classrooms are destroyed; equipment has been stolen from the Health Sciences faculty; but also cables, pipes, outlets and light bulbs in all spaces,” the parliamentarian explained.
Bozo stressed that the employees, professors and university students continue with their responsibilities despite the crisis they are going through.
“Sentence 0324 of the Supreme Court of Justice of Maduro directly attacks university autonomy, violating even the Constitution of Venezuela in its Article 109.”
