Congressman Carlos Valero, member of the National Assembly’s (NA) Foreign Policy Committee, reported that there are currently 4.8 million Venezuelan migrants and refugees around the world, of which around 2 million have irregular migratory status.
During the ordinary session that took place in Plaza Bolívar in Chacao on Wednesday, the parliamentarian stated that he rejected the cases of xenophobia and aporophobia against Venezuelans. He also committed to work from the National Assembly to stop these cases of violence together with international organizations and allied governments.
“We are not going to leave any Venezuelan without attention, this National Assembly is at the service of political change and of all our brothers. We are going to intensify our diplomacy with allied governments, the Lima Group, the OAS and the European Union to diminish and avoid these outbreaks of xenophobia and aporophobia that our brothers are suffering,” said the deputy during the debate on the xenophobia that Venezuelans are experiencing abroad.
Similarly, Valero said that the parliamentary government led by Juan Guaidó and the National Assembly will carry out the necessary steps with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations agencies to assist all Venezuelan migrants and refugees.
“The first thing that needs to be mentioned under this agenda item is that from the Parliament, from the legitimate presidency and the diplomatic corps that we have designated, we assume and are working to mitigate the cases of xenophobia. There is no single state policy of brotherly countries against our brothers,” he said.
He also indicated that the cases of violence that Venezuelans have committed in other countries have been scarce, so much so that the number of complaints does not reach 1% of the more than 4.8 million brothers who have had to flee from the complex humanitarian crisis created by the regime. He denounced that in many cases it has been proven that those who are involved in vandalism are sent by Nicolas Maduro’s regime.
During the session, a draft agreement was approved in rejection of the outbreaks of xenophobia against Venezuelans abroad, which will be sent to ambassadors, international organizations and allied countries.
