Williams Dávila Barrios, Member of the National Assembly and Member of the Permanent Commission on Foreign Policy of the Parliament, described the vote of the European Parliament, that legitimates Juan Guaidó as President of the National Assembly and Head of Government in charge of Venezuela as a victory.
Before the vote, from the seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Dávila stated that, after the coup against the legitimate National Assembly with a parallel directive, “this decision represented a historic moment, which represents a new stage of the international offensive that we have undertaken”.
After the resolution was approved by 471 votes in favor, 101 against and 103 abstentions, the political leader cited it as a victory for Venezuela’s freedom. “Faith and discipline. Juan Guaido is recognized as the president in charge of Venezuela and of the National Assembly, the only legitimate one,” the legislator tweeted.
He also explained that in addition to recognizing Guaidó, this decision includes individual sanctions against those who threaten Venezuelan democracy, including family members and recognition of diplomatic representatives of the Venezuelan Government (E) in the European Union. It also requires the admission of the representatives of the transition in Cyprus, Italy and Slovakia.
Dávila was accompanied by Isadora Zubillaga, presidential deputy commissioner for foreign affairs, and the deputy of the National Assembly in exile, Mariela Magallanes.
