This week marks two years since the national political coordinator in charge of Voluntad Popular Party, Freddy Guevara, entered the house of the Chilean ambassador as a guest, for that reason Emilio Graterón, who currently serves as the political director of the party, reminded Venezuelans that it is worth fighting for the freedom of Venezuela and supported the call made by the president in charge, Juan Guaidó, for this November 16th.
“Today Freddy Guevara’s sacrifice shows us that there are reasons to continue fighting and that our freedom is worth it. We Venezuelans want freedom, that the hardships we are suffering and the struggle that Freddy Guevara maintains has that goal”, said Graterón.
He also reaffirmed the fear that Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship of has of citizen mobilization in the streets and recalled that Deputy Freddy Guevara led citizen protests during the last decade. “When Radio Caracas Televisión (Rctv) was closed, when we defeated Hugo Chávez in the recall referendum, when we took to the streets in 2014, when we won the National Assembly in 2015 and when we resumed the street in 2017, there was Freddy Guevara present and that cost him his freedom.”
Graterón stressed that this year 2019 has had important political achievements at the international level, among them, the worldwide recognition of the legitimate Government of Juan Guaidó, the protection of Venezuelan companies and goods abroad, the designation of a cabinet that has made possible relations with almost all the countries of the world, the issuance of a report from the Human Rights Council of the United Nations Organization (UN) and the International Workers Organization (ILO).
“All these processes has had a protagonist: the people of Venezuela, but also courageous leaders such as Leopoldo López, Freddy Guevara and Juan Guaidó. It is necessary to continue fighting this same year in which the greatest amount of political triumphs have been achieved against the regime. We are convinced that the only way to make a change is to remain on the streets exerting pressure, so the call is to go out and tell the world that we are fighting, that we are still fighting and that we are pressuring to end usurpation.”
On behalf of Voluntad Popular, Graterón also insisted on the importance of the protest that the different political and social sectors manifested during the last weeks. “We Venezuelans say that each of us has an important role in this new stage, in which we must turn all protests into a single struggle. Venezuela, we must wake up, get up and show the whole world that we are still fighting.”
For its part, the municipal coordinator of Voluntad Popular in Hatillo and also a sentimental partner of Deputy Freddy Guevara, Ariana González, stressed that despite everything, the relatives of those who have been victims of the persecution of the regime of Nicolás Maduro stand firm and also she highlighted Guevara’s commitment to #LaMejorVzla.
“No one can be well when one loses its freedom. Today none of us are free, we live in a dictatorship that fears the political leaders who oppose it, but Freddy keeps fighting because he knows we are going to accomplish it.”
