The Office of the First Lady, Fabiana Rosales, issued a statement in which she repudiated the murder of an eight-year-old girl, Hecmeli Rodríguez, in the Nueva Esparta state. “We urge the authorities to clarify the event that fills our hearts and the hearts of Venezuelan families with deep pain and sadness”, says the statement.
“We demand that the institutions fulfill their role and exercise justice against the alleged murderers who would have taken the life of little Hecmeli”, the official text continued.
Rosales reiterated his commitment to build the necessary policies that defend children and adolescents, which “are part of the most vulnerable population in society.” Likewise, the First Lady offered her solidarity with Hecmeli’s parents.
“Child abuse or violence must be eradicated in Venezuela, given the alarming numbers of registered cases and the inaction of the Venezuelan State in recent years”, the statement concluded.
Hecmeli had been missing since September 9. Her body was found at the end of the afternoon of Friday the 13th among the mangroves of the lagoon of Los Mártires, on Margarita Island. The Corps of Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations (CICPC) of the Nueva Esparta state determined that the victim was raped and suffocated.
