From the outskirts of the Palace of Justice in the city of Caracas, Romina Botaro de Marquez, wife of Juan José Márquez, uncle of the President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, arrested on Tuesday 11th of February at the Simon Bolivar International Airport, confirmed that her husband has a private lawyer, and therefore rejected any attempt to assign him a public defender.
She said that at approximately 5:00 p.m. this Wednesday, February 12th, she received a phone call from her husband informing her that he would be transferred from the headquarters of the General Directorate of Military Counter-Intelligence (DGCIM) in Boleíta, Caracas, to the courts to be presented, but until 7:00 p.m. neither she nor his lawyer had seen him.
“I want to emphasize that my husband has a lawyer and his name is Joel Garcia, he is in the Palace of Justice waiting to assist you. My husband (Juan José Márquez) is a family man, a worker, and has no police record, so I am sure he will be released.”
It is worth remembering that Seniat officials did not allow Marquez to leave immigration at the Simon Bolivar International Airport, allegedly because he had to sign some documents. According to what he could tell by phone to some relatives, since he went missing. However, at the end of this Wednesday afternoon he contacted his wife to notify her that he would be transferred to the Palace of Justice.
The President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, denounced his disappearance in the morning and blamed Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship for it.
