“The year 2020 has to be decisive in unlocking this suffocating political situation the country is experiencing. Venezuela is today a kind of contained dam, whose waters are looking for channels to get out and will find them,” said opposition leader Andrés Velásquez on Saturday.
“Under the current circumstances,” said the opposition leader, “Venezuela is unviable. Impossible to sustain. In the year 2019, we continue in that endless fall that is already impossible to bear. Venezuelans are practically (just) surviving.
He says that in the year that is ending “we went back even further in terms of public services: water, gas, electricity, public transportation, citizen security, employment disappeared, the salary was pulverized, the basic food basket exceeded 5 million bolivars in the month of November, the economic contraction continues without stop and hyperinflation continues to sweep away the hunger-income of our population and as ñapa (on top) we will close the year without fuel and most of the states of the Republic semi-paralyzed in long and endless queues, which some have come to call the tails of death (as in the case of Guyana, where three people have died of heart attack)”.
MADURO IS IN SURVIVAL MODE
“Without a doubt,” emphasizes Velasquez, “the decline in quality of life has been impressive. As we said, this is unsustainable. Venezuela is today a kind of contained dam, whose waters are looking for channels to get out and will find them. Maduro is in survival mode. The democratic forces of liberation have made impressive progress and have accumulated capacities, which, if properly used, with the right strategy and plan, must lead us to the victory of freedom, democracy and prosperity that we are all longing for.
In this sense, the Guayana leader considers that “in 2020, we are going to be subject to great and historic political decisions.”
DEFEATING THE MATURED STRATEGY
“The dictatorship’s strategy is to call for parliamentary elections, leaving aside the presidential elections that are constitutionally pending, after the electoral fraud and sham committed by Maduro on May 20th, 2018, which led the Venezuelan people not to participate in this electoral scheme and more than 60 countries do not to recognize it.”
Therefore, it is decisive. Velasquez when he says that “the response of our people and all democratic factors inside and outside the country, can not be other than to demand and call for presidential elections, of course with a new and reliable CNE, international observation, vote for our compatriots abroad, manual vote, REP audited, without red dots, or ‘carnet de la patria’ and with a ‘Plan República’ that does not believe itself owner of the electoral process.
THE SOLUTION IS TO GET RID OF MADURO
“In other words,” considers the also national leader of La Causa R, one of the organizations allied to the President of the National Assembly and interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, “there will be no solution to this tragedy that we are living through today if we do not throw Nicolás Maduro and his gang out of the power that they are usurping, and we are going to achieve it with all the strength of our people and with all the strength that our Constitution gives us.
About that day, Andrés Velasquez is conclusive when he maintains that “the first defeat that we must inflict on the corrupt, ruinous, and starving narco-tyranny is to begin the year, on January 5th, by ratifying Juan Guaidó as president of the National Assembly, and particularly after we have seen the usurpers desperate to deploy all their capacity for corruption, persecution, and unconstitutionality to try to prevent it.”
Andrés Velásquez reiterates, on January 5th the parliamentary majority must ratify Guaidó as president of the NA, as a first step towards restoring democracy and constitutional order in Venezuela.
