Since 3 p.m. last Friday, Margarita Island suffered a new mega blackout that left more than 40% of the population without electricity.
The event again turned on the alarms of the experts of the Board of Engineers of Nueva Esparta, since the blackout is an indication of the aggravation of the crisis in the submarine cable, which provides electricity to this area of the country.
Eustacio Aguilera, president of the Electricity Commission of the Engineers Guild, believes that the lack of investment finally led to a setback in the regional electricity crisis.
The representative of the Board of Engineers emphasized that the situation in the region has not become more complicated, due to the massive closure of stores and companies, as well as the hundreds of families who have emigrated to other countries and the considerable fall in the visits of national and foreign tourists, which has considerably reduced electricity consumption on the islands of Margarita and Coche.
The deputy of the National Assembly for the state of Nueva Esparta, Oscar Ronderos, condemned the fact that Margariteños continue to be victims of a regime that does not attend to the problems of Venezuelans.
“This is the sequel to the corruption of Nicolás Maduro’s government that keeps Nueva Esparta and the rest of Venezuela in the worst conditions,” he said.
