Residents of the Robert Serra community in San Juan de los Morros, Guárico State, live in extreme poverty by negligence on the part of the Mayor’s Office of the Municipality Juan Germán Rocio Nieves and the Governor’s Office of the State.
“We live in a very bad conditions. There are elderly people with disabilities who don’t even have the necessary resources to maintain themselves as people. We don’t have the help of the governors or the mayor’s office,” said Yorleidi Chacón.
At least 74 affected families live in this sector without any type of basic services, they don’t have electricity connections, so they have had to improvise to light their homes. There is no piped water and they have to look for the liquid in a well with water that is not suitable for consumption.
They have no sewage system and do not receive domestic gas. Some manage to buy bottles outside the area, but in many cases cook with firewood.
According to the neighbors, children are sick with parasites from drinking polluted water. For more than four years they have been living in this place and their houses are still made of zinc. There is no response from the agencies and there is no project to benefit families with decent housing.
