Teacher absenteeism in educational institutions in Anzoátegui State is over 50%.
Education professionals in the east of the country said that, in addition to the diaspora, the low salaries that do not even pay for travel, much less the basic food basket.
Another impediment for teachers to continue with their work is the absence of children in the classrooms.
“There are very few students. There are even institutions that don’t have children,” said Mayra Marin, a spokesperson for the teachers’ union.
The salary crisis that teachers are experiencing has forced them to ask their families for help in order to survive.
“Being professional (teachers), it is illogical that we are going through this problem,” stressed teacher Cecilia Mata.
Likewise, the teachers explained that they do not receive a Cesta Ticket (basic food allowance), bonus, or their salary because, according to the authorities, “resources have not been sent”.
The teachers of the entity assure that next Monday they will begin a series of protests and staggered strikes to demand labor rights.
