Maracaibo is plunged into an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. The public transportation service is so chaotic that what there is are box trucks and flat trucks with improvised roofs called “Chirrincheras”. On these makeshift buses, they drive people in the back without any security or control. This has caused inconveniences and fatal accidents.
This situation goes on under the complacent gaze of the municipal authorities, who do nothing to resolve this situation that puts the Zulianos in grave danger on a daily basis.
To this is added the cost of the fare that has no regulation. Carriers charge from 5,000 Bs to 10,000 Bs. depending on the route, in addition, Maracaibo is a city where cash has been scarce for more than a year.
The drivers of public transportion assure that the prices are due to the dollarization in the price of the spare parts and the long queues to put gasoline or to buy it in the black market, which deals in dollars.
