Venezuelan teachers and professors began a 48-hour national strike on Tuesday, demanding labor rights and better working conditions.
Likewise, on Thursday teachers are planning to join in support for the protests of the Zulian people that will take place in Caracas due to the serious humanitarian crisis that they are going through.
Víctor Márquez, president of the Professors Association of the Central University of Venezuela (Apucv) that the group declares itself in “permanent conflict” and will meet with other unions and guilds to take new actions.
Educators are evaluating extending the protest to 72 hours with active demonstrations throughout the country.
The average salary of a university professor in Venezuela is between $ 15 and $ 20 per month, in addition their contracts do not reward factors such as years of service or specializations by imposition of the dictatorship.
