Retirees and pensioners decided on Wednesday to join the sustained protest being carried out by teachers and nurses throughout the country to demand that their rights be respected.
“We are paid our pension as they please and we are abused when they calculate the Christmas bonuses for retirees of the public administration. That’s why we pensioners and retirees will be on the streets in permanent protest demanding our legitimate rights,” said a spokesman for the elderly.
“Maduro is the enemy of the working class, whether you call yourself active, retired or pensioner. That’s why we have to go out and reclaim our rights, because benefit that is not reclaimed, is a benefit that is lost,” he added.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Frente Amplio in defense of retirees and pensioners, Luis Cano, warned the dictatorship that “we are going to continue in the streets because we want to die of old age and not of hunger as it is happening at the moment, that is our reality.”
“Faced with this reality, we decided to die in the streets fighting for our rights, because if we loose our lives in the streets, we are going to die happy so that those who come after do not go through our hardships,” he concluded.
