An international conference will be held in Lima on Tuesday, August 6 with the assistance of at least 60 countries in search of a peaceful exit to the political crisis in Venezuela. Although with the absence of countries that support the regime of Nicolás Maduro.
Convened by the Lima Group, that since 2017 promotes a solution to the crisis in the oil rich country. A high-level delegation was sent by US President Donald Trump it will attend the conference composed by the Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, and the National Security advisor, John Bolton.
Other delegates from the Vatican, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Israel, United Arab Emirates, South Africa and 18 Latin American countries will also attend; but China, Cuba, Russia and Turkey will not participate. They were especially invited because they can build bridges with the Venezuelan dictator’s regime.
“To date, 62 delegations (59 countries and 3 international organizations, evaluate the reconstruction of Venezuela) have confirmed their participation in the International Conference for Democracy in Venezuela, which will be held on Tuesday”, said the Peruvian Foreign Ministry in a statement released on the weekend.
The international organizations that will send delegates are the European Union, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Development Bank of Latin America (formerly known as the Andean Development Corporation, CAF).
The arrival of foreign ministers to Peru has not been announced, which suggests that countries will be represented by their ambassadors in Lima or lower-ranking officials. For now, the highest level delegation is from the United States.
