The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, warned about the cruel treatment of political prisoners by Maduro’s regime in the most recent update of the report on the crisis in Venezuela.
“My office continues to receive complaints of cruel treatment of prisoners,” the high commissioner denounced in the oral update of the report issued on March 10th.
In this regard, she stated, “my office continues to receive allegations of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Military Counter-Intelligence in Caracas.”
Bachelet also regretted the arrest of opposition deputy Gilber Caro, “who continues to be detained without his place of detention being known.”
She also rejected the deprivation of liberty of Congressman Ismael León who “was arrested and is today under house arrest”.
