The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, François-Philippe Champagne, reaffirmed his support for the Venezuelan people who are fighting to overthrow Nicolas Maduro’s regime.
“On Venezuela’s Independence Day, Canada reaffirms its unwavering support for the Venezuelan people as they struggle to restore their democratic and human rights,” reads the statement released Sunday by the Canadian ministry.
Champagne said that Canada continues to work hand in hand with various allies to achieve a peaceful transition to democracy in Venezuela, which includes, according to the Constitution, free and fair elections.
“Together, we must put an end to the human tragedy in Venezuela and ensure that Venezuelans can once again live in the democracy they deserve,” he ended.
“Juntos, debemos poner fin a la tragedia humana en Venezuela y asegurar que los venezolanos puedan vivir una vez más en la democracia que se merecen”, concluyó.
