The Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Mauricio Montalvo, announced that they are working on a system for the regularization of Venezuelan migrants that responds to all those who could not be part of the previous process.
During a meeting with the international press, Mr. Montalvo also announced that Ecuador is aligned with the conclusions of the International Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants.
The Ecuadorian official announced that together with President Guillermo Lasso they defined “some master guidelines of what that process would be in its different phases.”
According to official figures, there are currently about 430,000 Venezuelan migrants in Ecuador however, various national and international organizations estimate there could be up to 600,000.
With regard to the legal situation of the Venezuelan community in Ecuador, approximately 220,000 have some type of visa, while the rest are in an irregular condition.
INTERNATIONAL DONOR CONFERENCE
Hours before Mr. Montalvo’s press conference, the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, participated in the International Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants, where he ratified his country’s support for the Venezuelan diaspora.
The Ecuadorian President announced that he was developing an effective, long-lasting and permanent immigration policy. For this, he considered the participation of the international community to be essential.
The International Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants raised 1,554 million dollars that will be used to protect the 5.6 million people who have fled Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship in Venezuela.
