The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) expressed its concern about the situation of health and care workers in Venezuela after civil society reported that about 19% of the official deaths from COVID-19 in the country correspond to this segment of the population.
“It is essential that health and care workers have biosecurity protocols,” the IACHR said in a message on its official Twitter account.
In this sense, the international organization urged Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship to apply the guidelines of its Resolution 4/20, especially those aimed at protecting the rights of health and care workers who attend people with Covid-19.
It also explained that these protocols “include the performance of diagnoses, protective equipment and materials necessary for disinfection and adequate maintenance of health environs.”
