The rapporteur of the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights for Venezuela and children, Esmeralda Arosemena de Troitiño, demanded that Nicolás Maduro’s regime of guarantee the lives of Venezuelan children and adolescents.
Ms. Arosemana mourned the death of the teenager Niurka Camacho, who died while waiting seven years for a transplant at the ‘JM de los Ríos’ hospital.
“I deeply regret the death of the adolescent Niurka Camacho, 15, who denounced before the IACHR the suspension of organ transplants in Venezuela,” she said through her Twitter account.
The Commissioner classified Niurka as an ’empowered’ adolescent who spoke out to protect the rights of many Venezuelan children.
“I reiterate the call for the State to urgently resume carrying out of transplants. It is urgent to guarantee the lives of the girls, boys and adolescents on the waiting list,” she declared.
Hundreds of Venezuelan children run the daily risk of losing their lives due to the serious shortage of medicines and treatments for their health, being forgotten and abandoned by Maduro’s regime.
