The International Monetary Fund rejected the request for five billion dollars in financing requested by Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship in response to the health crisis following the arrival of the covid-19 in Venezuela.
The financial organization said it was not in a position to consider the regime’s request since its members do not recognize Maduro as President of Venezuela.
“Unfortunately, the Fund is not in a position to consider this request [$5 billion for Maduro]. IMF activities with countries depend on the government’s official recognition by the international community. At this time, there is no clarity about recognition,” the statement said.
