James Story, the U.S. chargé d’affaires for Venezuela, announced that in the coming days the U.S. will intensify pressure against Nicolas Maduro’s regime while working hand in hand with the European Union, the Lima Group countries and TIAR to take action.
“We can impose secondary sanctions and put more pressure on the income of the dictatorship. These sanctions are not against the people of Venezuela. The dictatorship can buy medicine and food for the people of Venezuela. But what they are doing is putting weapons in the hands of a militia to confront the people,” he explained.
Story compared the actions of the Special Action Forces (FAES) and Minister Iris Varela with that of terrorist organizations, so that the Administration of President Donald Trump, could qualify the regime of Nicolas Maduro as a regime that protects terrorism.
“It is possible of course, because Bachelet’s report talks about the FAES andmore than 7,000 people killed by the FAES. The FAES is the body that is putting deputies of the National Assembly in prison and disappear people. These are things of terrorist groups. Just like Iris Varela, working with prisoners to give them weapons to confront a people who only want their rights,” Story said in an interview with a well-known Miami channel.
Story warned that if Nicolas Maduro continues in power, the future of Venezuela will be terrorism and drug trafficking.
“We have to think about the price if Venezuelans do not win their democracy. The price is a dictatorship that does not dominate the territory. FARC, ELN, criminal gangs, terrorists within the country. Maduro is more like the mayor of Fuerte Tiuna at the moment. Maduro does not dominate the country. Drug trafficking and terrorism is the future if Venezuela does not win,” he warned.
