Member countries of the Lima Group rejected the election of Nicolas Maduro’s regime to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2020-2022.
Representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia and the other ten nations said thatMaduro’s dictatorship is responsible for very serious human rights violations and they demand an end to impunity for those responsible for criminal acts.

The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia and Venezuela, member countries of the Lima Group, deeply deplore that the illegitimate and dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro, responsible for very serious human rights violations, has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2020-2022.
Our countries, in said Council, renew their firm decision to make the greatest efforts to continue the investigation of systematic violations of human rights in Venezuela so that those responsible for these criminal acts do not go unpunished.
Finally, they reiterate their permanent commitment to continue promoting, together with the international community, the recovery of democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela.
