The deputy director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, clarified that neither politicians nor security personnel should be part of the priority groups to receive the first doses of vaccines against COVID-19.
Barboza indicated that both PAHO and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend that “priority groups should be health personnel first because they are more exposed, according to the data of deaths from COVID-19 in the continent, including professionals who are in contact with older adults, who are in key social areas, who cannot stop working.”
Later, he continues, “those who are most vulnerable to developing serious forms and dying from COVID, older adults and adults with chronic diseases should be immunized, these should be the priorities.”
Recently, the dictator Nicolás Maduro announced the arrival of 100,000 vaccines in the country, which were to be destined for regime politicians and members of the Bolivarian National Guard and police, which contradicts the opinions of the experts.
