The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, stated this Saturday during his visit to Colombia that Nicolás Maduro’s regime cannot be tolerated to welcome the ELN and the FARC dissidents in Venezuela.
The head of U.S. diplomacy assured after a meeting with Colombian President Ivan Duque that “the regime has provided safe haven, aid and shelter to terrorists.”
Meanwhile, the Colombian President referred to the most recent report of the UN Fact-Finding Mission. “Nicolás Maduro is a criminal against humanity”.
In this sense, Duque affirmed that Maduro’s regime has been systematically committing human rights violations for the past year, and therefore urged the international community to take action against him and his dictatorship.
Pompeo took advantage of the meeting to thank Duque for having allowed the arrival of 1.7 million Venezuelans to Colombia. “Colombians should be proud”.
In this regard, Pompeo described Duque as “a true leader for the region,” for all the support he has given to Venezuelan migrants, as well as for the pressure he exerts on the dictatorship.
