The President of Colombia, Iván Duque, stressed that thanks to the diplomatic siege imposed by the international community against Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship, the regime has been forced to negotiate in Mexico City with the Unitary Platform.
The Colombian President affirmed that the objective is to establish the conditions for reliable, transparent presidential elections to be held in Venezuela immediately with strict international supervision.
Regarding the migration crisis, Iván Duque called on the international community to fulfill its commitments and provide resources to receive Venezuelans fleeing the regime in Venezuela.
“More than six million Venezuelans have left the country. If Venezuela does not regain democracy, this crisis will be worse. Almost six thousand dollars per migrant was assigned to the Syrian crisis, what has been assigned in Sudan is 1,500 and in the case of Venezuela the amount does not reach $300. These resources must be expedited. Spain is helping us,” he said.
On the other hand, the President of Colombia announced that John Mechas, a criminal who directed the attack perpetrated in Cúcuta against him is in Venezuela, he is part of the dissident FARC and is a partner of the ELN.
“We captured several of those who materially executed the attack. Among others, a man, alias ‘el capi’. There is no doubt. These groups are protected in Venezuela by the dictatorship,” he said.
Furthermore, he pointed out that although Maduro is not directly responsible for the attack, he has turned the Venezuelan territory into a paradise for criminals, where international criminals can operate with the consent of security agencies.
