U.S. Senator Marco Rubio demanded that the United Nations remove Nicolas Maduro’s allies and accomplices.
Rubio explained that the Maduro regime and its allies have broken the Venezuelan people and democracy.
“Today, the independent UN fact-finding mission released a report recognizing what we have known for a long time: Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and senior members of his criminal regime are responsible for crimes against humanity,” Rubio said.
The U.S. representative called the dictatorship “a criminal syndicate” which has violated the rule of law, committed egregious human rights violations and undermined democratic order.
The senator noted that among the crimes Maduro and his allies have committed are torture, arbitrary disappearances, inhumane attacks and politically motivated detentions of political leaders, members of the press and anyone who opposes him.
Rubio asserted the need for the UN to do justice and to hold Maduro and his allies accountable.
“They must read their own report and immediately remove Maduro’s accomplices who represent him in UN bodies such as the Human Rights Council,” he concluded.
