US Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the administration of President Joe Biden to consider donating some of the surplus vaccines that the United States will have to Venezuelans suffering under Nicolás Marduro’s regime.
Senator Scott explained in his letter to Sec. Blinken that the few vaccines that have reached Venezuela have been distributed by Maduro’s dictatorship with political and discriminatory criteria.
“Maduro’s disgusting loyalty pledge requirement leaves Venezuelans who support democracy and the democratically elected president, Juan Guaidó, without options for vaccination,” the Republican congressman warned.
In the document, the Senator indicates that counting the advance purchases and the agreements concerning vaccines, the United States will have more than 300 million additional doses by the end of July.
“As you consider how to distribute the millions of leftover vaccines and the possibility of donating part of our vaccine supply to nations in need, I hope you will reflect on the current situation in Venezuela,” concluded Scott.
