The diplomatic representation of Slovenia at the UN Human Rights Council demanded that the Nicolas Maduro dictatorship release all political prisoners and bring justice to all victims of human rights violations.
“Slovenia supports the findings of human rights violations exposed by the UN Verification Mission and the crimes that took place since 2014. We call on Venezuela to stop these atrocious practices and to commit to all the recommendations made in the report,” said the European country’s representative during the meeting in Geneva.
They also called for those responsible for human rights violations in Venezuela to be brought to justice.
“We urge independent and impartial investigations into these human rights violations and the crimes reported and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” they added.
Similarly, Slovenia demanded the release of the prisoners of conscience by the Maduro regime.
“We call on Venezuela to take measures to release all political prisoners and arbitrarily detained persons”.
Finally, the Slovenian government urged the regime to allow a UN team to enter Venezuela.
“The extension of the FMM (Fact Finding Mission) mandate is important for future investigations into human rights violations in Venezuela. We also call upon Venezuela to cooperate with the OHCHR office and to provide the conditions for the FMM to work directly on site,” it concluded.
