The President (E) of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, on behalf of the Legitimate Government, congratulated the United States on the celebration of Independence Day, today July 4th, 2020.
The following is the complete document:
Mr. Donald Trump
President of the United States of America
On behalf of the legitimate government of Venezuela and the Venezuelan people, I write to you on the occasion of congratulating you, the Congress of the United States and the American people, on the occasion of your Independence Day.
May this occasion serve to recognize your leadership in promoting the universal values of freedom and democracy among the nations of the world. The actions of your government, institutions and people are the strongest evidence of your solidarity with the struggle of the people of Venezuela
to regain their freedom.
The oppressive regime, led by Nicolas Maduro, has generated the worst humanitarian crisis in our history. As a result, we have not only confronted tyranny, but we have taken a long road towards restoring the constitutional thread, with you being our unconditional and consistent ally.
The historic relationship between our nations is a source of great inspiration for the people of Venezuela, who even in their darkest moments know that they are accompanied in their struggle to defeat a criminal, corrupt, incompetent and ruthless regime that persecutes its people, plunders their resources and violates the most basic principles of any democratic society, compromising peace and stability beyond our national territory.
This is a fair and timely opportunity to thank you for supporting our proposal to form a National Emergency Government that includes all political sectors in Venezuela that are not involved in legal proceedings. This is the only mechanism that would allow us to urgently address humanitarian and social problems, and then hold free, fair and transparent presidential elections in order to restore freedom, respect for human rights and democracy in our country.
We look forward to celebrating the resurgence of our freedom alongside our brothers and sisters in the United States who are celebrating their 244th anniversary of freedom today.
I bid farewell by expressing my highest esteem and consideration.
Speaker of the National Assembly
President (E) of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
