Seven senators from the United States of America on Wednesday asked the High Commissioner of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, to exert more pressure against the regime of Nicolás Maduro. The document sent to the EU was signed by Congressmen James Risch, Marco Rubio, John Barrasso, Cory Gardner, Rick Scott, Ron Johnson and Josh Hawley.
“We strongly urge the EU to match its restrictive measures against the same people of Venezuela to whom the United States and Canada have already imposed sanctions”, the statement said in English.
“Doing that will send a powerful message to Maduro and his accomplices that they will not prevail and that it is time for them to withdraw as an obstacle to the restoration of democracy in Venezuela”, the statement said.
The request mentioned the more than 200 officers and collaborators of the Maduro regime that have been sanctioned by the United States and Canada due to the constant violation of human rights and corruption.
