The Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Andrés Terán, announced that Venezuelan migrants will be able to apply for a Humanitarian Visa regardless of having expired passports.
Displaced Venezuelans who want to obtain this visa must upload their documents online to the address consuladovirtual.gob.ec.
Terán explained that a copy of the passport is necessary, which could have expired for up to five years, as well as a stamped police record “for us to have the certainty and assurance that the citizen who is going to enter has not committed any crime.”
The consulates in Caracas, Bogotá and Lima will be handling this process. The chancellor informed that the delivery process will not be long, although he did not reveal the approximate time that the process will take.
He said it will depend on the validity of the documents of the Venezuelans, as well as the interview in the consulates.
Terán added that implementing this process will cost the Ecuadorian State four million dollars, and a census will be included to verify the conditions of the migrants.
The Temporary Residence Visa application for humanitarian reasons approved by President Lenín Moreno for humanitarian reasons will take effect on Monday, August 26.
