The U.S. National Security Council reiterated that the administration of President Donald Trump supports and recognizes Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
“The administration maintains its unwavering support for interim President Guaidó, the democratically elected National Assembly and the Venezuelan people in their struggle for freedom, basic human rights and the restoration of democracy and the rule of law,” they said in a message released through their official accounts.
They also noted that the U.S. president “has refused to meet with Maduro on numerous occasions.”
“The only meeting Trump will have with Maduro will be to discuss one thing: his peaceful departure from power,” they ended.
