National Assembly deputy and Central University of Venezuela medical graduate José Manuel Olivares reiterated that Nicolás Maduro’s regime continues to lie to the country about the numbers of people infected with the Covid-19 virus in Venezuela. He said that in the case of Nueva Esparta State, the disease spread due to the lack of protective supplies for health personnel.
He stated that on Margarita Island there are not five infected as indicated by Maduro’s spokespersons, but 20 cases counting suspects, quick tests and PCR. Olivares also reported that the first nosocomial transmission occurred at the Doctor Luis Ortega hospital, that is, the first transmission of Covid-19 inside a health center.
“A patient who spent a week in hospital tested positive and is now intubated with support from a mechanical ventilator. She infected a member of the health team who attended her,” said the congressman.
Vargas said that two doctors and two family members of the patient are in isolation.
Olivares denounced that after learning of the positive case, they made the mistake of not giving the PCR test to all the health professionals, including the cleaning staff who were in contact with this patient who was hospitalized for seven days.
Congressman José Manuel Olivares indicated that what happened in Nueva Esparta State is a consequence of the absence of protective medical materials and supplies and “part of what can happen in Venezuela if we do not act on time, with responsibility and transparency.”
“Maduro, instead of saying that he is going to give machines to other countries in order to look for trouble with his neighbors, he should be concerned that these machines are available to Venezuelans,” he concluded.
