The deputy to the National Assembly for the state of Nueva Esparta, Oscar Ronderos, denounced that Dante Rivas, spokesman for Nicolás Maduro in the insular region, is lying about the coronavirus data corresponding to the State. “The protector of failure says there are five infections on Margarita Island, when the reality is that we have more than 20 cases between confirmed by rapid tests and PCR, in addition to a high rate of suspected patients,” he said.
In this sense, the congressman warned that – as he knows first hand – the State they represent in the Capitol is rapidly approaching the definitive collapse of its health system. He pointed out that this is a terrible tragedy, since Margarita is one of the main focuses of the expansion of the pandemic in the country.
“Maduro’s administration is lying to the Venezuelans. They impose political and military criteria, instead of abiding by the scientific protocols required by the national contingency. Nueva Esparta is the first state in the Republic to register hospital infections, and in spite of this our health professionals, doctors, nurses and maintenance personnel don’t have the screening equipment, nor do they have biosecurity suits, as well as the permanent lack of basic medical supplies,” Ronderos said.
On the same issue, the also legislator before Parlasur – Venezuelan chapter – said that the Luis Ortega hospital of the state is contaminated. He assured that he had confirmation that, in this hospital classified as a sentinel center, patients with COVID-19 were admitted to the emergency, so today this area is contaminated.
The leader of Accion Democratica also said that a pregnant woman with the virus, being treated for labor without the necessary preventive measures, transmitted the disease to the anesthesiologist and the resident who treated her. “The degree of inexperience and irresponsibility with which they are handling this crisis in Nueva Esparta is such that this patient unfortunately infected others by leaving the virus in the operating room’s respirator,” Ronderos described.
Condemning the situation of abandonment in which the assistance centers are found, Ronderos demanded the official sector to speak the truth to Venezuelans so that a further spread of the pandemic in the region is stalled. “Besides withholding the evidence with the centralization of these, they lie to the country believing that by hiding the real numbers of contagion they will manage to maintain a flat curve to show to the world,” the legislator said.
He also expressed his solidarity with the medical personnel who remain firm, carrying out their laudable work, despite the lack of protective material and the non-application of the protocols established by the World Health Organization and the Pan-American Health Organization.
Finally, he also warned of the deficient distribution of water and the serious shortage of gasoline on the island. “They failed to manage the health system and basic services. Today the Neo-Spartans are paying the consequences,” he added.
