The defense lawyer, Simón Andarcia Febres, of the deputy of the National Assembly for Voluntad Popular party, Antonio Geara, demanded that the right to health of the deputy prevail. He was presented Tuesday before the Second Control Court of the First Judicial Circuit of the state of Bolivar in a delicate health state.
“Upon completion of the 48 hours required by the law for his presentation, this Monday 16th, the hearing of the congressman Geara took place, with Judge Niurka Gonzalez, whom we ask to give importance to the health state of my defendant. Antonio recently had surgery on his knee, which is why he has been forced to use crutches. He is also a heart patient and has high blood pressure, both of which are delicate medical conditions,” he said.
Geara, who is also the regional coordinator of VP Party in Bolivar state, was arrested by officials from Venezuela’s Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) on March 15th as he was preparing to bring food to a neighbor in his community who is in a precarious situation.
The defense lawyer reported that the congressman was charged with the crimes of trafficking in weapons of war and ammunition, possesion of explosive devices, and money laundering. After the hearing, the deputy was taken to the San Pedro Clinic in Ciudad Bolivar to check on his current state of health.
Dr. Andarcia Febres, who is part of the defense along with lawyer Hernan Gonzalez, said that the incrimination is nothing more than political terrorism carried out by a defeated government, which seeks as a last resort to incriminate its opponents.
For his part, Geara’s nephew, Luigi Pulcini, stressed that his uncle is not a hall politician, nor a stage politician, but a social worker dedicated to helping the people of Bolivar State. “They tried to plant weapons and money on a person who walks around on crutches, it’s absurd that he could have a rifle on him. This is a totally political case, because my uncle did not sell out to Operation Scorpion and has stood firm in support of Juan Guaidó from the National Assembly”.
It should be noted that Nicolás Maduro’s usurper regime has initiated a strong persecution against legislators and leaders who belong to Voluntad Popular. Days before the kidnapping of deputy Geara, deputy Renzo Prieto was also arbitrarily arrested, as was deputy Ismael León a month earlier, preceded by deputy Gilber Caro and the director of the presidential office in charge of Venezuela, Roberto Marrero, who is about to celebrate his first year in the dungeons of the dictatorship.
Finally, Pulcini stressed that the arrest of his uncle is a new ploy of Nicolas Maduro’s usurper regime, who is taking advantage of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) to persecute innocent people for political reasons, without creating a stir in the media, which is focused on reporting on the evolution of the virus.
