The Deputy of the legitimate National Assembly, Olivia Lozano, condemned the death of political prisoner, Gabriel Medina Díaz, at the hands of Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
The President of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Venezuelan National Assembly assured that political prisoners of Maduro’s regime die after their human rights are violated and it disregards due process in their trials.
“How many more political prisoners must die under the yoke of a criminal regime that, violating human rights and denying due process, imprisons those who think differently?” Lozano questioned.
The parliamentarian demanded the release of all political prisoners in Venezuela and affirmed that the cases before the International Criminal Court (ICC) must continue to advance to achieve justice.
This Sunday afternoon was confirmed the death of Gabriel Medina Díaz, 39 years old, who was confined in the “Nelsón Mandela” annex of the “La Pica” prison in Monagas State, and who was treated, after pressure by his cellmates, at the Manuel Núñez Tovar Hospital where he died of respiratory arrest.
Mr. Medina was being held in preventive custody without a conviction, violating his rights and disrespecting due legal process. Nicolás Maduro’s regime had denied him medical care for more than a month. He is the ninth political prisoner to die in the custody of the dictatorship since 2014.
