Teachers, profesors, workers, parents, representatives and students of the country, are preparing for a great national strike in the face of the serious crisis facing the Venezuelan education sector, warned the Sub Commission of Education of the Permanent Commission of Integral Social Development of the National Assembly, Bolivia Suárez.
Accompanied by the deputies members of the parliamentary instance, the teaching unions, the Democratic Unit of the Educational Sector, representatives of the Federation of Associations of University Professors of Venezuela, teachers and representatives.
“We are going towards a national strike, because this situation has no turning back. We are convinced that the only way to improve the education system and the crisis facing the country is with the cessation of usurpation, transitional government and free elections. That is why we must stay on the street and fight to recover the education we want for our children.”
She also condemned the aggressions to which the teachers were victims on September 16 and 17, by the GNB, the GNP and the armed groups that support the usurping government. “Teachers and teachers were attacked and mistreated. Their only crime was to protest the low salaries, the precarious situation of the infrastructure of the educational units of the country, and the social, economic and political crisis that Venezuelans are experiencing and that hit the education sector.”
She noted that the school year began with repression, not only in the capital city but in all the states of the country. “This is the response given by the regime and the usurper Education Minister Aristóbulo Istúriz, to teachers who are claiming their just constitutional rights, to have decent wages.”
She added that this school year also began with a great student absenteeism, of 8 million students who had to enroll, only 3.5 million enrolled, most are not attending because they do not have the resources for food, transportation, uniforms and school supplies.
“In other words, absenteeism is in the order of 87 percent in school classrooms. Unfortunately this is going to be maintained because there are no conditions for the new school year and there is also no provision on the part of Minister Istúriz, nor the regime, to solve this serious situation”.
She revealed that seven out of 10 teachers have stated that they will not incorporate into their work posts in the new school year and that they will continue on the streets protesting until their requests are considered and Venezuelans have a better education for their children.
“The only country in the world where the profession of teachers is not recognized is here in Venezuela, because this regime does not want to train professionals for the future and thus keep citizens illiterate, ignorant, to have them subdued.”
She informed that from the Sub Commission of Education they have been making a diagnosis in all the educational institutions of the country, to know the state of infrastructure, bathrooms, drinking fountains, desks, laboratory equipment among others.
“From that diagnosis we can affirm that 90% of the educational units of the country are practically on the ground. There are no toilets, drinking fountains, in short there are no conditions to start the school year. So what Aristóbulo Istúriz has said about the “a drop of love for my school” plan is a fraud, because of the 22 thousand official institutions that exist in the country, only 200 are in operation, which does not represent even 1 percent.”
She announced that from the National Assembly they will articulate actions and request the interpellation of the Minister of Education to present the solutions. She added that by September 25 they will be holding an event in the National Assembly, called “Save Education One Year from the Declaration of the Complex Humanitarian Educational Emergency”.
“We are going to prepare a report that we will take to the UN, FAO and Unesco, denouncing everything that is happening with the education sector, as a human right.”
Finally she condemned the announcement of Istúriz of the creation of an organ parallel to the Pedagogical University for the training of teachers. “This parallel university has the only objective of ideologizing young people, the interest of this regime is not that people are prepared, but that they be indoctrinated.”
She reiterated her rejection of the so-called express teachers and informed that they have been rejected in educational institutions by parents and representatives. “These express teachers are going to hack the students, so they have been rejected by the educational communities”, concluded the deputy from Lara State.
