The president of the Energy and Petroleum Commission, Elias Matta, pointed out that the current fuel shortage is not only a product of the Covid-19 pandemic, but also of the irresponsibility of the usurper government that destroyed the country’s refinery park.
When asked about the issue, the Zulia State parliamentarian said that gasoline and diesel are fundamental elements to guarantee Venezuela’s mobility. “The only person responsible for the lack of these is Nicolás Maduro, the only thing they have done is destroy PDVSA and the entire refining process that the country had installed.”
He said that the Venezuelan Parliament, in the last three years, “has given different debates on the issue of gasoline supply, alerted the country, sent communications to the ministers warning about this situation, because in this mismanagement destroyed an entire refinery park that was the envy of the whole world. We have denounced for two years a selective rationing to more than 10 states, being the most affected the border states, Zulia and Tachira. The only thing they were doing was guaranteeing the supply to the center of the country.
“Of the three million three hundred thousand barrels we produced, we currently only produce 700 thousand. More than $630 billion dollars were taken from the two oil booms and stole them, and now the country has no gasoline because they destroyed the refinery park, (they) took the silver (money) and the only person responsible is the usurper government of Nicolás Maduro”.
According to the oil expert, this shortage is occurring “despite the fact that domestic gasoline consumption has fallen, Venezuela used to consume 500,000 barrels and now consumes less than 200,000.”
He emphasized that in Venezuela there was a refinery that could produce close to one million three hundred thousand barrels, “these irresponsible people destroyed that refinery, they reached a 20% processing level, they began to import gasoline, but this shortage has been going on for years,” as he pointed out.
Matta, described as unheard of that the country with the largest oil reserves has to be buying gasoline abroad. “This disaster is signaled by a total collapse of the supply system, they ran out of money, they dropped oil production. They no longer have a way to buy gasoline abroad,” he added.
