At a press conference held through the Zoom platform on Friday, the first vice president of the National Assembly, Juan Pablo Guanipa, said that Nicolas Maduro’s regime is taking advantage of the pandemic that has hit the entire world to repress and lie to Venezuelans about the real situation in the country.
“The dictatorship lies and represses with the Covid-19. What has the government done to strengthen the health system in these almost 90 days? What has it done in the intensive care units? What has it done with the respirators? This dictatorship has simply done nothing because it is convenient for them what is happening in the country and in the world,” he said.
The deputy informed about the current situation in the state of Zulia and indicated that according to the information they have, the data provided on the cases of Covid-19 in the state by the dictatorship are not true. “We want to demand that the dictatorship informs us what is happening in the state, that it tells us exactly how many cases there are”.
“What happened with the flea market? Why didn’t you report what happened with that issue if it was an epicenter for the contagion of the virus? Why wasn’t it attended to in time? Why were merchants who came from Colombia allowed to pass without any control? Why don’t they attend to the small merchants but simply close it down from one day to the next (without warning) and don’t allow access? They could set up the control mechanisms within the state in advance and in an adequate manner to affect the community as little as possible, but they are not interested,” he said.
Guanipa said that “from Primero Justicia we have made some approaches, we have talked about the fund for life, which are resources that can be recovered for the country from different perspectives. But to achieve this, there is one obstacle: Nicolas Maduro. He has become the worst tragedy that Venezuela suffers, the worst virus that Venezuela has, the socialism of the 21st century that has done so much damage to our country”.
The parliamentarian recalled that “the UN, the church and civil society can be involved in this proposal, but obviously the obstacle remains Nicolas Maduro, and that is why we have supported the call of Juan Guaidó, who has also been accompanied by the international community, to form a national emergency government, through which attention can be given not only to this issue, but also that attention can be given to the serious problems that have been generated by Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship, who has destroyed the quality of life of Venezuelans, destroyed the opportunities of Venezuelans, the education system does not exist and much less (education) at a distance because there are no technological advances in Venezuela.
Guanipa said the national emergency government, which has support from the international community, the Lima group and the OAS, has to become a reality.
“That is why we must continue pressuring. We say as political leaders: Neither stay at home nor go out to the streets massively, neither of these two things would be opportune at this moment, our solution would be to use protection mechanisms and go out to the streets to meet the people, like yesterday we were at the flea market in Maracaibo, and we are aware of the serious situation”.
