The Board of Directors of the National Assembly is addressing the Venezuelan people and the international community to denounce the kidnapping of Venezuelan journalist Darvinson Rojas, who was arbitrarily detained along with his parents by 15 members of the Special Action Forces (FAES) yesterday March21st, claiming to have received an anonymous call in which they denounced that there was a case of COVID-19 infection in their home. It is important to emphasize that this body does not have any incumbency in health issues, but on the contrary it is well known that its motivation is always political, persecuting those who are uncomfortable for Nicolas Maduro’s regime.
This criminal group of 15 men violently broke into his home, severely assaulted his father, Mr. Jesus Rojas, and his mother, Miriam Sanchez, stealing two computers and cell phones that were in the house, detained them with his son and were later released.
We call upon the international community and the people of Venezuela to repudiate this act of the usurper regime, which is taking advantage of the state of emergency that our Nation is going through and the quarantine to violate the Human Rights of our citizens and the Constitution.
It is worth remembering that the FAES is the police body which the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has requested its immediate dissolution due to the extrajudicial executions it has committed. For this reason we hold Nicolás Maduro and his regime responsible for what may happen to the journalist Darvinson Rojas and we demand his immediate release.
Exercising the journalistic function in this country is an arduous and high-risk task since the regime demonizes the free press and persecutes journalists who seek to keep our people informed in the midst of a communications blockade. This action shows how the regime makes use of a serious situation such as the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic to carry out its tyrannical and anti-human rights acts.
